Some NEWS about the new Work Health and Safety legislation – 2011.

Training for elected Health Safety Representatives.

Under the old OHS Act 2000 and Regulations 2001 the WorkCover NSW OHS Consultation COMMITTEE Training Course was undertaken by OHS Consultation Committee members.

OHS Consultation Committee training is being phased out and Health and Safety Representative ( HSR ) training is the training required under the new WHS legislation.

Under the NEW Work Health and Safety Act and Regulation 2011, implemented on the 1st January, 2012 there are new requirements.

Interim arrangements for a period of 12 months from the 1st January, 2011 are being applied.

This arrangement has been instigated to allow 12 months for Persons Conducting Business Undertakings ( PCBU’s ) to start to advise their workers of the new legislation requirements related to HSR election and then training.

When a worker is elected as an HSR and has previously undertaken the OHS Consultation Committee, 4 day course ( and can show proof ) then the requirement for training is 1 day bridging course training.

The course requirements for this 1 day bridging course for HSR’s have been finalised and Margaret Lewis, OHS & First Aid Training and Services, can provide this training on your site, as always.

The course will be delivered by a WorkCover NSW and RTO authorised and accredited trainer as my OHS Consultation Committee was.

The 5 day course content will be uploaded shortly but the 1 day bridging course information can be found at Health Safety Representative course on my website.
